OTTAWA, Canada, April 28, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- AMITA Corporation, a leader in public safety and emergency management solutions, is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract by the European Police Office (EUROPOL), the European Union's Law Enforcement Agency, to develop, implement and integrate the EU Bomb Data System (EBDS). SOCIUS/Plus!, which is at the core of AMITA's global bomb database solution bid, was selected as the EBDS through a competitive bidding process.

The European Union (EU) application of SOCIUS/Plus! will be the implementation of an EBDS for the storage and exchange of information and intelligence involving explosives, explosive/incendiary devices and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) materials for the EU Member States and EU Competent Authorities. This widely available, user-friendly data system will be accessible for those military units in charge of EOD/CBRN, European Policing Agencies, as well as by a number of other agencies/security services depending on national legislation.

The Law Enforcement Community of the 27 EU Member States will be able to share and search incident information and intelligence through EBDS. Once the system successfully passes the accreditation process, it will house up to and including restricted incident data regarding Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and their components, Improvised Incendiary Devices (IIDs), CBRN materials and agents and precursors, etc., while providing valuable analytical reports to analysts.

This announcement promises a common CBRN incident and intelligence database tool (SOCIUS/Plus!) within EUROPOL and other Bomb Data Centers, including the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to exchange incident data, information and best practices amongst the competent authorities of the member states and third countries, provided there is a cooperation agreement in place with EUROPOL. This could be of significant benefit to bomb techs and investigators as well as the intelligence community from many sides. The system should be running before the end of the September 2010 and may one day provide a vast collection of CBRN incidents worldwide, thereby revealing emerging trends and types of counter measures that are effective including possibly links to countries' criminal/terrorist activity with groups that have been active within the European Union.

Commenting on the agreement with EUROPOL, Monica Preston, President of AMITA, said, Canadian-built technology, developed by AMITA, will be the core catalyst for CBRN technical incident data sharing on a global basis. SOCIUS/Plus! originated from a joint government-private sector funded research program for the protection of Canadians and is now internationally recognized as the commercial product that will promote global and local safety while helping build Canadian business and Canada's reputation as technology innovators.
