GRONINGEN, The Netherlands, September 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Elkoog B.V., the start-up from Groningen, The Netherlands, has developed Heeii.com, an extension for the web browser that continuously offers a top ten of interesting web sites which are closely related to the web sites that are being visited. Heeii.com approaches privacy of surfing behaviour as openly as possible, and puts it at service of its users.

'Porn mode'

"Privacy of surfing behaviour is handled opportunistically by Microsoft with the introduction of the 'InPrivate option' which should enable private browsing," Edwin Kuipers, inventor of Heeii.com comments, "Because it is primarily meant to pose a threat to Google. We are of the opinion that the user should always be the single departure point as far as privacy is concerned."

Openness

The Internet site of Heeii.com informs users extensively concerning privacy. Furthermore, Heeii only works when a user registers and agrees to the conditions before use. Because of this the user is informed in all openness concerning the privacy of surfing behaviour. Moreover, users of Heeii can enable or disable the service at any time. "Google does not handle privacy as openly as they could, or should," notes Kuipers, "In that respect there is absolutely something to say for an 'InPrivate option'. But only for the protection of the users and not for the position of Microsoft on the search engine market."

At your service

With Heeii, surfing behaviour is fully put at service of its users. An individual user gets insight in his or her own surfing behaviour, and contributes - simply by surfing - to the quality of the suggestions which Heeii presents to its users. The suggestions ('musts') which our system presents are based entirely on implicit feedback of the users themselves," Kuipers explains, "as a result of which our database is only filled with current and interesting web pages."

Worldwide potential

Marnix Pool, manager of the Kennis Conversie Fonds, attributes worldwide potential to Heeii.com. "Heeii fits the profile of our funds perfectly. It is a young, high-tech company that could add significantly to the innovation power in the Northern Netherlands. It is perfectly in keeping with the spearheads for knowledge development and knowledge transfer that are formulated for this region. The relation with the University of Groningen is mutual sustaining."

"At last, something new and challenging in this field in the Netherlands." Nils Rooijmans, Head of Search and Research ilse media

"Heeii is StumbleUpon plus Google Suggestions" Kristen Nicole, Lead Writer at Mashable.com

The Kennis Conversie Fonds (KCF) has been established to stop the "gap" in the financing market for techno starters. The KCF is a publicly financed investment fund that is being managed by the holding company of the University of Groningen. The fund invests in young high-tech companies, possibly supported by borrowed capital, but primarily with share capital. This way, the KCF wants to increase the innovation power in the Northern Netherlands. It is perfectly in keeping with the spearheads for knowledge development and knowledge transfer that are formulated for this region. In the next three years KFC aims to start fifteen to twenty technology companies and hopes to create some two hundred new job opportunities.

The ir. G.J. Smid Fonds centres its attention to stimulating employment in the Northern Netherlands by means of participation in technological innovative companies in this region.
