A drought has left the OC Fisher Reservoir in San Angelo State Park of West Texas almost empty, except for stagnant, dead fish that have made the water a deep red.

Officials say the bloody look is the result of Chromatiaceae bacteria, which thrive in oxygen-deprived water. Pictures of the blood-red pool circulated in fishing forums and caught the attention of Paul Begley, an Indiana preacher who said in a YouTube video that the lake might be evidence of the apocalypse predicted in the Biblical book of Revelation.
