About John M. John M. Collins is an author, executive coach, and leadership consultant specializing in high-stakes, high-impact occupations that are technically, intellectually, and/or ethically demanding. An experienced, effective optimizer of professional performance, John works with leaders, experts, and other skilled professionals seeking to improve their professionalism, leadership skills, and personal effectiveness. He started his private practice in 2014, having served as the director of forensic science for the state of Michigan. John retired his award-winning, 20-year forensic career to write his first two books, "HR Management in the Forensic Science Laboratory" and "Crime Lab Report" while building his successful coaching and consulting business. John’s career highlights include: his work in the forensic investigation of the Atlanta serial bombings, which included the bombing of the 1996 Olympics (for which he received a commendation from the Department of Treasury); his 2013 participation in a historic meeting with Attorney General Eric Holder and other experts to discuss solutions to gun violence following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting; and the facilitation of a high-level policy summit on the investigation of sexual and domestic violence held at the Rayburn House of Representatives Building in Washington DC. John has a master’s degree in Organizational Management and is formally certified as a senior HR professional by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). In 2012, John was trained as a professional coach by the College of Executive Coaching. John was a record-setting, four-year varsity discus thrower at Michigan State University (1989-1992) and now volunteers as a varsity high-school throws coach.
