Every summer and into early fall, large numbers of male walruses migrate away from the ice to feed in Alaska's Bristol Bay and also journey further to Round Island for several days between each feeding foray. Female walruses travel further north and remain on the ice edge with newborns and young calves, feeding and resting.
Well, now you can watch them on Walrus Cam, thanks to filmmaker Charles Annenberg's Explore.org. Due to state budget cuts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game was close to shutting down an important walrus monitoring program there, so Explore.org gave them a grant and has added the Walrus Cam to over 70 web cams they have set up worldwide.
As you can see in the screenshot, the camera is just a few feet away and viewers will be able to see thousands of walruses each day, doing their thing, which seems to be mostly laying around, feeding and fighting and...well, other stuff that will make kids giggle but that I will not talk about here.
