Marijuana industry trade groups are ecstatic that a Department of Health and Human Services
report
stated there is one indication that medical marijuana is legitimate.
But news outlets reporting that federal scientists are saying medical marijuana is legitimate are doing the public a disservice; it was not scientists, it was epidemiologists, and the review was of papers where people anecdotally said it helped them feel less pain.
If you do a review of astrology papers which were surveys of people who believe in astrology, or acupuncture surveys who believe needles are magic, you could also get statistical significance that the effects are real.
That is not science.
Instead, it was an executive order by President Biden, who has taken abuse and misuse of agencies he controls in order to create regulations that act as laws without needing Congress to breathtaking levels.
I absolutely agree that marijuana should not be Schedule 1, it is certainly far less harmful than other recreational drugs in that category. But it is addictive and it is harmful. It is not now nor has it ever been medicine.
The President should just do yet another executive order to mandate what he wants without needing anyone elected to have a say, he doesn't need to pretend the science is on his side. The plural form of anecdote is not data.
