The World Health Organisation, the last major body to accept that COVID-19 was a pandemic, is out in front extending its highest emergency level over, of all things, monkeypox.

We now know WHO held off on declaring COVID-19 an emergency because former President Donald Trump said it was an emergency and we should cut travel from China. Then he instructed FDA to prepare emergency use authorization standards for a vaccine they believed the private sector could create fast if government got out of the way.(1)

Either they have learned their lesson or SARS-CoV-2 made their politically-motivated denialism seem so stupid that they are declaring lots of things a crisis now. Keeping everyone in a panic is probably good business for them. A  PHEIC (public health emergency of international concern), over Monkeypox, though? It's 500 deaths in poor areas where lots and lots of diseases are easier to transmit. Just send them vaccines, no press conference needed.

Monkeypox virus. UN Scaremongering - it's similar to smallpox! Biological reality: It is really difficult to get.
Anyway, better to hyperventilate over everything rather than deny it because you hate an American president, so good job WHO. It is no worry in the US, but if a vaccine ever is needed, one party can't say it is too risky and their political opposition is jeopardizing lives until they win the election and take credit for it - because the vaccine already exists, and it works fine.

Hopefully, Rwanda doesn't have a local version of the UN's UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) that wants to help murder people under the guise of helping terrorists. Or they will get jabbed by a machine gun rather than a needle.

NOTE:

(1) WHO said he was racist and, we now know, China told them not to declare it a pandemic until they had time to remove all traces of their coronavirus database and remove the Wuhan wet market and scour the entire lab from which researchers had been caught selling lab animals to the wet market.
