NIEUWEGEIN, The Netherlands, February 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Ballast Nedam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with wpd for the design, supply and installation of 21 foundations forming part of the offshore wind farm Baltic I which is located in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Germany. wpd is a German project developer of offshore wind farms. According to the present schedule Ballast Nedam will install the 21 foundations for the project Baltic I in the first quarter of 2009.

This Memorandum of Understanding results in a situation whereby Ballast Nedam's Heavy Lifting Vessel ,the Svanen, has a full order book for the first quarter of 2009 and Ballast Nedam is positive about a potential for employment of the Svanen thereafter.

Since January 2008, Ballast Nedam has chartered the Svanen to MTH for the installation of 25 foundations for offshore wind turbines on the Rhyl Flats project during the first half of 2008 with an option to subsequently employ the Svanen for the Gunfleet Sands project, involving the construction of 45 wind turbines.

Apart from the installation of offshore wind farms, Ballast Nedam works together with its partner Evelop, to develop offshore wind farms in the North Sea off the coast of The Netherlands. Progress is this respect has been made with the development of the Scheveningen Buiten wind farm, planning application for which is under review by the Dutch Government. This wind farm will generate over 300 MW and will be located approximately 30 km from the coast off Scheveningen.
