AMSTERDAM, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Elsevier announced today that the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) is expanding local research community access to Scopus(R), the company's flagship product and the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. CAPES, which assists the Brazilian Ministry of Education in the formulation of national policies related to post-graduate study, will be making Scopus available to 200 universities and research institutes in Brazil, up from 44 in 2007.
We chose Scopus for its comprehensive and multidisciplinary coverage and it has exceeded our expectations, becoming an integral part of our mission to provide the most in-depth and up-to-date global knowledge to the research community we serve, said CAPES President Professor Jorge Guimaraes. The positive feedback we have received has led us to offer the database to additional universities. The performance measurement capability has also been very valuable in tracking Brazilian research output and comparing our progress to other nations.
We are very pleased that CAPES has chosen to expand the relationship as it indicates the research community's satisfaction with our database, added Niels Weertman, Director of Scopus for Elsevier. We look forward to continuing to work together to support scientific advancement in Brazil.
