PHILADELPHIA, February 17 /PRNewswire/ --
- Awards Confirm Elsevier's Leadership in Medical E-Products and Books in Clinical Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health
- Elsevier's Procedures Consult Named Top E-Product
Elsevier, the leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced that it has won four major awards from the Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division of the Association of American Publishers (AAP).
Elsevier's Procedures Consult, an online medical resource that helps physicians, medical residents and students learn and test their knowledge of medical procedures, was named Best Product within the e-products category of the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE Awards, http://www.proseawards.com).
Elsevier's success in both the e-product and book categories of the PROSE Awards demonstrates our ability to design, develop and deliver both print and electronic products to serve every component of the healthcare business across the continuum of care, said Randy Charles, Elsevier's Managing Director, Global Clinical Reference. Our e-products and books work synergistically to improve outcomes in health and in the business of health.
Receiving top honors in the nursing and allied health book category was Elsevier's Complementary Therapies for Physical Therapy: A Clinical Decision-Making Approach (written by Judith Deutsch, PT, PhD, and Ellen Anderson, PT, MA, GCS), which reveals how to incorporate evidence-based complementary therapies into a physical therapy practice.
Elsevier also received two honorable mentions in the clinical medicine category of biological and life sciences books. Elsevier's Comprehensive Pediatric Nephrology (edited by Denis Geary, MB, and Franz Schaefer, MD), reviews the epidemiology, diagnosis, investigations, management and prognosis for pediatric kidney disorders. Elsevier's Operative Techniques: Hand and Wrist Surgery (edited by Kevin Chung, MD), is a two-volume set with a Web site and DVD that offers the latest techniques in hand and wrist surgery.
Elsevier is proud of the knowledge, skill and experience it has acquired in bridging the more traditional, but still valuable world of print books, journals and resources with the revolutionary world of electronic communication, e-learning, and clinical practice, commented Charles. Recognition from prestigious organizations such as the Association of American Publishers only serves to reinforce our commitment to develop innovative clinical, educational, business and research solutions for the healthcare industry.
The PROSE awards, which were presented on February 5, 2009, in Washington, DC were named by a panel of 15 judges representing PSP member companies such as McGraw-Hill and Johns Hopkins University Press, as well as librarians and academics from major educational institutions such as New York University and Columbia University. This year's competition received some 439 entries - over 100 more than in 2007 and more than ever before in the award competition's 33-year history. The competition also featured the launch of an award Web site at http://www.proseaawards.com.
