- Tellabs introduces first in a new line of flexible Metro Ethernet products

Tellabs unveiled a new line-up of Metro Ethernet products that extend its Carrier Ethernet solutions even closer to end users. The new Tellabs(R) 7300 Metro Ethernet Switching series provides true flexibility to deliver Ethernet to even the most demanding users.

Tellabs transport and data products already enable operators to deploy reliable, profitable Ethernet services and Ethernet-based infrastructure. Now, the new Tellabs 7300 Metro Ethernet Switching series extends these features all the way to users. A large feature set enables operators to build scalable networks to easily deliver Carrier Ethernet services for business Ethernet access, carrier infrastructure projects like DSLAM aggregation and wireless backhaul applications.

The Tellabs 7300 series addresses market needs for Carrier Ethernet service offerings in business, consumer and wireless applications, said Dan Kelly, executive vice president of global products for Tellabs. Operators encounter enough challenges as it is. Our offering enables them to increase service resiliency and simplify operations for optimized, profitable service delivery.

The Tellabs(R) 7345 Ethernet Aggregation Switch is the first product in the new line. Key features of the Tellabs 7345 switch include:

-- Aggregation of up to 48 10/100/1000 Mb/s optical or electrical interfaces into 10GbE uplinks, all in a compact 2RU shelf configuration. This flexibility enables operators to meet a wide range of deployment needs; -- Temperature-hardened device for deployment in uncontrolled environments; -- Redundant architecture for delivery of highly available services. Tellabs provides support for redundant port interfaces, redundant power supply and redundant control plane processors. With this flexibility, operators can satisfy a wide range of deployment needs; -- Rich Ethernet feature set that supports traditional switched Ethernet applications and emerging connection-oriented applications.

The Tellabs 7300 product line complements Tellabs' Carrier Ethernet solution. By combining the Tellabs 7300 Metro Ethernet Switching series with the Tellabs(R) 7100 Optical Transport System and the Tellabs(R) 8800 Multiservice Router series, operators are able to design, scale and deliver networks that respond well to users' varying service needs.

Seamless integration with existing Tellabs management systems further eases service provisioning, monitoring and troubleshooting. Full Carrier Ethernet OAM* simplifies service testing, turn-up and monitoring. Point-to-point protection options guarantee quality and resilience of services. So service providers can overcome challenges and support users faster, with fewer service issues.

The Tellabs(R) 7345 Ethernet Aggregation Switch will be available in the first quarter of 2009. For more details on Tellabs' Carrier Ethernet solution see htto://www.tellabs.com.
