SEATTLE, February 19 /PRNewswire/ --

- Groundspeak's Geocaching Application makes high-tech treasure hunting fun, easy and affordable

Geocaching.com, the global headquarters for the sport of geocaching, recently released their official Geocaching iPhone Application. Developed by Groundspeak, the owner of Geocaching.com, the US$9.99 Geocaching Application is available online at Apple's iPhone Apps Store.

Geocaching, the high-tech treasure hunting activity played by millions of people around the world, no longer requires a dedicated GPS unit to participate. Geocaching offers direct access to Geocaching.com's database of over 700,000 geocaches worldwide. Players can now search for nearby geocaches, read cache descriptions and hints, log finds and post notes from the field.

We're pleased to make geocaching even more accessible with our new application, said Shauna Maggs, Groundspeak's Director of Marketing. Now, geocachers can spend less time planning and more time playing outdoors. With this application, geocachers are ready for spontaneous geocaching anytime, anywhere in the world.

Geocaching takes advantage of the iPhone 3G's internal GPS chip for navigation and sports a user-friendly interface with a simulated compass arrow. The application also allows players to save geocache listings for quick retrieval, look up trackable items and filter out already found geocaches.

Geocaching is best supported by the iPhone 3G but is also compatible with the iPod Touch and first generation iPhone. To view screenshots of Geocaching, visit http://www.geocaching.com/iphone/default.aspx
