GLASGOW, October 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Big hearted staff at Kwik Fit Insurance held a charity benefit concert on Friday night for their charity of the year, Kidney Research UK. The event at 'The Ferry' on the banks of the River Clyde featured five bands and four solo performers all of which are employed at the musically talented Uddingston firm.
For added excitement the evening was billed as a Battle of the Bands, with cash prizes for the Best Band and top Solo Performer of the night. A panel of judges featuring Kwik Fit Insurance staff and fundraisers from Kidney Research UK awarded marks for musical performance, stage presence and crowd reaction. The two hundred strong crowd cheered on as top band honours went to 'Groovejet' with Lanarkshire's Amy Timson picking up the top solo performance.
Dannii Welsh from 'Groovejet said, Everyone had a great night and we are thrilled to have won the judges vote. Everyone performed really well and it was great fun. We're also delighted that we helped the team raise money for Kidney Research as well.
Kidney Research UK was selected by Kwik Fit Insurance as their Charity of the Year for 2009, with the company pledging to raise an incredible GBP40,000 to fund a new Scottish based education and training programme. The weekend concert is expected to have raised over GBP1000 towards their fund. Earlier this year, Kwik Fit Insurance staff raised further funds by climbing Ben Nevis, white water rafting and in-house fun days.
Grahame Critcher is Kwik Fit Insurance's Charities Committee Chairperson and co-organiser of the annual music event. He said, This is always a really popular event with our staff and a lot of work goes in to making it a special night. I am really happy that so many people enjoyed the evening and this brings a big boost to our fundraising efforts for Kidney Research.
Kwik Fit Insurance has nominated a Charity of the Year since 2005 and to date has donated over GBP110,000. This year's initiative will see that figure exceed the GBP150K landmark.
