NEU-ISENBURG, Germany, May 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The development of a HVGA 4.45 (113.03mm) LCD, providing an optical storage effect that builds on Nemoptic's BiNem technology, is presently in progress at Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) development departments.
Simultaneously has the sales of another LCD, SA005, utilizing this bistable BiNem memory effect been started since it is already in running production. This displays dimensions are 2.53 (64.26mm) with a resolution of 240x86 dots.
BiNem is an abbreviation of Bistable Nematic, a functional principle that extends the known LCD technologies by an additional stable state that will be retained without the necessity of permanently applied electrical power and still produce a superior image quality. Instead of permanently applied electric driving signals as used in traditional LCD, the BiNem liquid crystals change their orientation on the application of electric pulse and remain in that new orientation until another electric pulse will change and twist them back again. This denotes that only for changes of the displays content pulsed electric energy is momentarily required.
Seiko Instruments Inc., as a leading LCD manufacturer, has developed highly sophisticated technologies that empower uniform quality control of LC cells.
Expecting a strong demand growth for Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) systems in retail markets and e-book markets replacing paper, SII is to sell its products and expand sales volumes utilizing its network of global affiliates and distributors using its well developed sales know-how.
