LONDON, September 20, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- sQuid, the electronic money provider, and The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) today announces the launch of sQuid on the LSE card.

sQuid have worked with leading smart card bureau Euclid to develop a personalised multi-function smart card which incorporates ID, access control, eMoney, Loyalty, and Library membership. Students and staff can now use the one card to access facilities and make convenient contactless payments throughout the campus.

The card will be available to all staff and students at LSE, who will be able to pre-load the card with funds to spend at a number of places at the School, including restaurants, cafes, bars and the library. LSE also boasts its own pub, which will be accepting sQuid payments too. The card also has a loyalty purse included, and LSE plan to introduce incentives and promotions so students and staff can gain rewards by using their cards throughout the campus.

sQuid will be rolled out in the coming year; new students starting at LSE this term are already being issued with the new LSE card which includes the sQuid technology. Existing students and most staff will get the chance to upgrade their card by the end of the year.

sQuid provides contactless eMoney solutions for campuses and retail locations across the UK, on an available-to-all pre-paid smart card. Paying with sQuid is quick and simple. Card holders can top up their sQuid accounts online with money and then pay for small value items, without the need to carry loose change. Transactions are very fast, secure, and their sQuid account enables users to track their transactions and manage their money online.

Andy Farrell, Director of Finance and Facilities at LSE said, 'sQuid is an innovative way of making everyday purchases, which should be quicker and more convenient for the customer. We hope students and staff will find it simple to use their LSE sQuid card to buy food, drink and other items at LSE.'

Janine Eagling, Senior Project Manager in IT Services said: 'We chose sQuid as our partner because the company has wide experience of running ePayment schemes in other parts of the country, including at universities in Dundee and Bolton. It's an exciting scheme that we think will prove popular with both students and staff by making their lives a little easier in many ways.'

sQuid already provides a similar service at the University of Bolton and the University of Abertay, and has had great success in both areas. Chris Styles, Operations Director at sQuid said, sQuid has been providing cashless payments solutions for campuses for a few years now, and we are excited to expand our usage to such a prestigious university.
