CAMBRIDGE, England, February 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Horse Chestnut Bleeding Canker, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. aesculi, is common across Europe. It is a vascular disease, spread through ground water and its control has, until recently, been considered impossible as the bacteria spreads through a tree's cambium layer. Consequently, any treatment must travel around the cambium, kill the bacteria and have no effect upon the tree or wildlife. Spraying and root injection and removal of cankers would result in damage to the tree.

JCA Limited (http://www.jcaac.com), in partnership with Allicin Tree Care (http://www.allicin-treecare.com), have developed Conquer(TM), which, when introduced into the tree kills the bacteria with applications for other tree diseases. JCA Limited is launching a treatment service in 2009.

Conquer(TM) is a natural substance and one of nature's most effective anti bacterial and anti fungal agents. Whilst known to man for centuries it has been unavailable in quantity or at sufficient strength. Our partners have a worldwide patent for producing Conquer(TM) for use in Horticulture and Arboriculture.

Conquer(TM) is manufactured from Garlic and grown under European GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) conditions. Produced without chemicals, it is biodegradable and environmentally safe. It has been tested by TNO, Organisation for Applied Scientific Research which proved that it destroys Pseudomonas syringae pv. aesculi.

Treatment with Conquer(TM) is required as soon as the tree has been infected. It is introduced into the cambium around the stem when root pressure and capillary action distribute it. The size and vigour of the tree helps to calculate the volume required.

In addition to its anti bacterial effect, Conquer(TM) has fungicidal and anti-viral qualities providing many potential uses in Horticulture and Arboriculture.

A Welcome Side Effect

Tests produced a side effect of considerable benefit to Horse Chestnuts. An avenue of trees were untreated whilst a parallel avenue of trees were treated. Apart from the effect of a recovery in the treated trees, they were practically unaffected by leaf miner Cameraria ohridella and completely foliated. The control avenue was heavily infested and practically defoliated by September. Conquer(TM) taints the sap with Garlic which the leaf miner finds offensive and indeed, if a leaf is crushed after treatment, a Garlic smell can be detected.

Whilst Conquer(TM) is expensive, treatment is cost effective when compared with mass tree removal both in environmental terms and financially.
