TAIPEI, Taiwan, September 21, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Getac UK has launched an upgrade to its popular B300 fully rugged laptop with the addition of the new Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 processor to offer increased processing speed for businesses operating out in the field.

In addition to upgraded processing speed, the company is the first to market with an exclusive option for night vision capability -- designed to meet the MIL-STD-3009 NRA and NRB, and to display on night vision goggles.

The Getac B300 also offers the option of meeting MIL-STD-810G-509.5 salt fog compliance, making the system ideal for anyone working at sea or on the coast where the corrosive salt air can attack vulnerable unprotected computers.

We have improved the new B300 specifically to make it ideal for the military especially for night-time use and in a marine environment, explains Peter Molyneux, Business Development Director of Getac in the UK. However, there are also many industries that will benefit from the 67% increase in CPU performance and the doubling of graphic capabilities, whether they operate near sea air or not.

In addition to the i7 processor, the fully rugged laptop comes with a 5-year warranty and is available with two display options -- a 700 NITS display, and a best-in-class 1400 NITS display which includes Getac's exclusive QuadraClear display for easy viewing with a sunlight readable, anit-reflective touch screen, combined with an LED panel solution that also helps lower power consumption.

The battery life of all Getac computers is already extended because of their fanless operation. And with the B300, customers can get up to 22 hours with the dual battery function, adds Molyneux. The powerful Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 2.0 GHz Calpella platform at the heart of the B300 offers up to 2.8 GHz processing power, with the Intel(R) vPro(TM) architecture providing hardware-assisted security and manageability capabilities.

The B300 comes with GPS, WAN, Giga-LAN, Bluetooth and fast wireless network capabilities and has a Quick Key facility for regularly used programmes. The system also has built-in expandability with a second battery, a second HDD, a 2-in-1 multi-card reader, PCMCIAx2 or PCMCIA + PCI-E, and a multi-function media bay. In addition to MIL-STD-810G, the B300 is IP65 certified, can operate down to -20 degrees Celsius and has a shock mounted HDD LCD.

With this upgrade, operators get more versatility and connectivity than ever before, says Molyneux. This is all part of Getac's aim of differentiating itself from the competition by consistently delivering affordable, high performance, fully rugged computing that meets the needs of today's field-based operation.
