LONDON, June 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation is exhibiting at the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) event for land equipment and battlefield infrastructure, DVD 2010, where it will highlight its tactical command and control system applications for long-range reconnaissance forces and its capabilities in unmanned ground vehicles.
DVD is the UK MoD Defence Equipment and Support (DES) annual stakeholder event for land equipment and joint supply chain communities. It brings together the armed forces, the defence industry and the acquisition community, to showcase the equipment and support that is critical to the success of the UK's armed forces.
DVD takes place from 23-24 June at Millbrook Proving Ground, Bedfordshire.
Our proven capabilities in command and control technologies are enhancing situational awareness for ground troops and creating real effect in operational environments, said David Taylor, managing director, C4I, Northrop Grumman Information Systems Europe. DVD allows us to demonstrate how our systems can be incorporated into land vehicles to provide the Armed Forces with operational benefits on the battlefield.
Northrop Grumman will highlight its BearClaw command and control system.
The BearClaw system is the special operations-focused part of Northrop Grumman's Integrated Tactical Command and Control System (I-TaCCS) framework of command and control solutions. These systems have been built using the tactical Command and Control for the PC (C2PC) software that has been in service with world leading long range reconnaissance forces for the last 2 1/2 years and have been credited with providing real effect in theatre.
The system has been used to pinpoint injured men on the ground, help navigate through complex buildings and compounds, and enable dispersed units to link up after ambushes. It has also enabled wounded men and ground troops under fire to be guided accurately and rapidly to pick up points where helicopters have extracted them to safety. The system has also been credited with preventing a number of friendly fire incidents on the ground and from the air.
The Northrop Grumman BearClaw architecture is designed to provide special operations personnel with a scalable command and control capability. It provides operators and commanders with enhanced situational awareness through a combination of radio blue force tracking (RBFT), VMF messaging, terrain analysis, planning tools, video capture and distribution.
Northrop Grumman has integrated its tactical command and control software with rugged hardware and proven radio systems into the SUPACAT family of high mobility vehicles. This has been carried out to provide a simple, robust, compact, easily reconfigured solution to allow vehicles to be adapted for different operations. A system suitable for mounting on a SUPACAT Jackal vehicle will be unveiled at DVD. This provides a one stop solution for all long range reconnaissance and manoeuvre roles for SUPACAT platform users. The system will be available to customers operating over a variety of radio systems and can be adapted for other bearers if required along with other vehicle types.
Also featured will be the latest technology in unmanned ground vehicle systems for remote handling of hazardous threats and materials including bomb disposal and tactical and surveillance operations. On display will be the new and improved Wheelbarrow Mk9 and the medium and small-sized Caliber MK 3 and T5 unmanned ground vehicles. These provide a range of remote capabilities for law enforcement and special operations forces as well as bomb disposal operations. Also demonstrated will be the company's new integrated CBRNe sensor suite on the Wheelbarrow Mk9 vehicle.
