JOHANNESBURG, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- NOV Mono(R), a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of pumping systems, and Water For All, a non-governmental organisation that provides access to clean drinking water to schools and communities across Africa, have partnered to provide green solutions to the world water crisis.
In a rare collaboration between a global company and an African NGO, Mono and Water For All worked together to develop the new Fun Pump, a unique water system that is made up of an electric pump powered by a solar panel and a special merry-go-round. The electricity generated from both the power of the sun and children at play provides a significant increase in water production over manually operated pumps.
We are delighted to have formed this partnership with Water For All to introduce a new solar pump that includes a merry-go-round. The strength of the Water For All programme combined with our proven technologies and wide distributor network across Africa will allow us to bring clean water to thousands of communities and make lasting changes in the health and well-being of children said Paul Naylon, Group Managing Director of Mono.
Depending on the depth and yield of the borehole, the Fun Pump's solar panel can produce a minimum of 5,000 litres of water per day. When the children are playing, production increases by approximately 20 percent. The system comes with a pump, a 160 Watt solar panel, generator, merry-go-round, storage tank and tap.
In addition to the Fun Pump, Mono and Water For All have also worked together to develop the Sun Pump, a 480 Watt solar pump that is capable of producing 8,000-30,000 litres of water a day based on the specifications of the borehole. The Sun Pump comes with several pump options, allowing it to work in a variety of settings and depths.
Geoff Hopkins, Managing Director of Water For All, said, Water For All is always looking for innovative and efficient ways to deliver clean water to rural African communities. Mono is more than a vendor for us; we have formed a true partnership that will enable us to scale up our efforts and offer communities a range of choices to meet their individual needs. Mono's proven track record and innovative approach make the company an ideal partner as we strive to reach those in greatest need.
Mono is a major supplier of Water For All's solar pumps for rural schools and communities. Although Mono typically works with commercial and governmental organisations around the world, Water For All is now one of the company's largest clients in Africa. Water For All will work with Mono distributors in a number of African countries to donate a range of water pumps to communities in need.
According to the World Health Organisation, 1.1 billion people around the world are without access to safe water. Investment in drinking water and sanitation are thought to generate an extra 320 million productive days each year, an extra 272 million school attendance days and an additional 1.5 billion healthy days for children under the age of five.
