BARCELONA, Spain, February 15, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- PT , the recently rebranded Performance Technologies, a leading provider of innovative network communications solutions, today announced it has greatly increased the capacity of its industry leading SEGway(TM) Signalling Solution. Following last year's announcement of increasing both link and processing capacity, this latest enhancement increases the already unprecedented performance, up to 400,000 transactions per second (TPS) and over 3000 SigTran associations on a single, telco-hardened 12U chassis.
Network signalling traffic is increasing by orders of magnitude due to mobile messaging and mobile services, leading telecom operators to face serious limitations in their legacy TDM or hybrid networks. Increasingly, they face the choice to retrofit or replace existing nodes with IP-based architecture. PT's SEGway X301 and X401 are the only signalling systems purpose-built for the rigors of an IP-centric network with its high-bandwidth demands and database-heavy applications.
These platforms are designed using Ethernet-based backplane architecture with built-in five-nines (99.999%) reliability and switches that allows all SIP and SigTran associations to be connected via two gigabit Ethernet ports that significantly simplifies installation, wiring, and configuration. Equipping the system with additional routing CPUs gives the SEGway its scalability. In addition to its unmatched transaction per second rate, SEGway provides a complete selection of interfaces - TDM, ATM, AnnexA, IP, and SIP. It is unique in the market, in that this capacity is maintained even with the addition of features such as Gateway Screening, Signalling Gateway, Point Code Emulation(TM), or Global Title Translation.
We have leveraged our considerable signalling expertise to think outside the proverbial box, and develop a six-fold performance increase in less than one year; that is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else in the industry, said Virgil Long, Senior Director of Engineering at PT. Business cases prove that carriers may realize cost savings reaching millions of dollars over three to five years' time, and our entire system costs them less than an upgrade of most legacy systems.
The choice of PT's equipment not only increases an operator's network efficiency, it also lowers the cost of signalling transport. SEGway Signalling Solutions have the smallest footprint per processing capability, and the highest signalling density in the industry. That adds up to a drastic reduction in power consumption, and greatly decreased facilities and operating costs, contributing to a greener environment. It is a flexible and highly scalable solution for operators designing or migrating to an IP network, and is suitable for deployment at the core or the edge of the network.
