The International Special Training Centre (ISTC) is located at the Generaloberst-von-Fritsch-Kaserne in PFULLENDORF, Federal Republic of Germany. ISTC is unique within Europe in providing centralized advanced training for Special Operations Forces (SOF) and similar units.
ISTC is an international institution established in 1979, operated and funded by the presently nine member nations: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Turkey and the United States of America. The member nations are the nation's signatory to the ISTC Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) dated 21 May 2001.
Other NATO nations can attend ISTC courses on space available basis. Non-NATO member nations can attend after MOU nation's approval.
Although it is neither a NATO School or under NATO command, the school is advised by the NATO Training Group in order to maintain the doctrinal azimuth of NATO SOF operations. Informally ISTC also works closely together with NATO Special operations Coordination Center (NSCC).
