SAN JOSE, California and CANNES, France, February 24 /PRNewswire/ --
Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced that its entire line of thin clients are now VMware Ready Certified for VMware View(TM), enabling a superior user experience for those deploying a cloud computing or client virtualization environment with VMware View. The announcement was made today in Cannes, France at VMworld Europe 2009.
VMware Ready Certified status includes rigorous testing and quality assurance with VMware View for enhanced reliability and ease of deployment. Wyse works closely with VMware to develop innovative solutions that help businesses plan, implement and operate a virtual infrastructure with the VMware platform.
With desktop and mobile devices optimized for VMware View, Wyse is delivering a superior set of options for customers looking to adopt client virtualization. Wyse is a leader in developing cloud environments for knowledge users with advanced technologies such as Collaborative Processing Architecture (CPA). CPA is the only protocol acceleration technology that works with both ICA and RDP protocols on Windows(TM) and non-windows desktops, and intelligently manages voice, video, and data workloads to maximize use of the powerful CPUs found in Wyse clients. This approach improves datacenter scalability, removing roadblocks to higher user counts, and reducing the energy consumed by the datacenter, all while dramatically improving the user experience. By supporting voice, video and data, Wyse offers higher levels of functionality for VMware View users.
Wyse's relationship with VMware combined with technology advances in virtual desktops, has allowed us to raise the bar in cost savings, while delivering a superior end-user experience, according to Ricardo Antuna, Senior Vice President, Product Management, Business Development and Alliances for Wyse Technology. We will continue to work with VMware to enable our customers who use VMware View to enjoy a smooth multimedia experience and benefit from superior USB plug-and-play support, even in non-Windows environments.
We value our relationship with Wyse, with our shared vision of providing an environment for delivering rich, personalized virtual desktops to Wyse thin clients, said Jerry Chen, Senior Director of Desktop Virtualization, VMware. VMware View is an ideal environment for thin client users. Together, VMware and Wyse are providing customers with easy and cost-effective desktop solutions that offer an outstanding user experience, enhanced security, simpler management, lower TCO, and less impact on the environment. We are pleased to work with Wyse to help ensure that its thin clients are optimized for VMware View environments.
Wyse customers across Europe are already seeing the benefits of Wyse virtual desktops:
Acxiom is a major provider of IT outsourcing services and we have found that virtualizing our infrastructure helps us create efficiencies while also enhancing our expertise, said Chris Lanaux, Acxiom IT Services technical group leader. We have deployed numerous thin clients as part of our desktop virtualization efforts and will continue to do so. Our virtualization efforts have enabled us to centralize and consolidate our data centers and deploy more thin clients at a cost significantly lower than PCs. As a global interactive marketing services company, Acxiom must maintain a computing infrastructure that is simple, reliable and scalable. The virtual desktops from Wyse fit the bill on all fronts.
Our IT department was struggling to maintain nearly 2,000 PCs that were long past the point of being efficient, according to Holger Busch, Team Leader at Stadt Hanau in Central Germany. By making the switch to Wyse virtual desktops, not only did we save on the replacement costs for new PCs, we have seen other benefits as well. We were able to centralize all of our applications and the accompanying administration of those applications, and thus lower the number of data centers required from 7 to 2. We have also benefited from a reduction in energy costs of approximately 70%. In addition, our use of Wyse TCX software has allowed us to run multimedia files on our new thin clients and to use various USB peripherals according to the needs of our users.
Before our move to thin clients, we were suffering from high PC management costs, unacceptable energy consumption, and inefficient security management, according to Srboljub Nikitovic, Executive Director for TV Technology at Radio Television of Serbia (RTS). All that has since changed for the better. In addition, as Serbia's official national broadcaster we had specific and sophisticated audio and video requirements. As far as we know, Wyse was the only company that could provide RTS with smooth video over Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) capabilities.
Volkswagen Versicherungsdienst is doing everything we can to reduce carbon emissions, not just with the vehicles that we manufacture, but also with the computers that we use, according to Mathias Wietstock, IT Manager at Volkswagen Versicherungsdienst GmbH. We made the move to Wyse thin clients for some very good technology reasons -- USB and peripheral support, VMware integration, improved management and multimedia support -- but the fact that we have reduced our energy consumption by 131.544 kilowatts every year is what really has us smiling.
