PhD from the University of Illinois and worked at Northwestern University and Columbia University before moving to Texas in 1998, written over 150 research papers on a diverse collection of topics on thinking, including decision making, reasoning, and motivation. Former executive officer of the Cognitive Science Society and currently the Executive Editor of the scientific journal Cognitive Science. Also an award-winning teacher who teaches classes in Cognitive Psychology to both undergraduates and graduate students and helps supervise the psychology honors program.
I blog regularly for Psychology Today, The Huffington Post, and Harvard Business Review, serve as the psychology site advisor for YouBeauty.com and helped Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen craft quizzes for their books YOU: Being Beautiful and YOU: Having a Baby. Through the program in the Human Dimensions of Organizations at the University of Texas, I create courses to teach people in business and nonprofits about how an understanding of people can improve their leadership ability.
I live in Austin, Texas, with my wife Leora and our three children. When not at work or spending time with my family, I can be found playing the saxophone in a blues band.
