About Henry I.
Henry I. Miller, MS, MD, physician and molecular biologist, is senior fellow in healthcare at the Pacific Research Institute. He was formerly a research associate at the National Institutes of Health and the founding director of the US Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Biotechnology. Miller served for fifteen years at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and was the medical reviewer for the first genetically engineered drugs to be evaluated by the FDA, human insulin and human growth hormone, and was instrumental in their rapid licensing. He was later a special assistant to the FDA commissioner.
His research focuses on public policy toward science and technology, encompassing a number of areas, including pharmaceutical development, genetic engineering in agriculture, models for regulatory reform, and the emergence of new viral diseases. You can follow him on Twitter @henryimiller.
