I am midway through a PhD at the University of Sussex (the nature and function of human nonverbal vocalisations: evolutionary, acoustic, and psychological perspectives), and have just co-published a review paper in Trends in Cognitive Sciences, offering a new perspective on the evolution of vocal control and speech (http://authors.elsevier.com/a/1SlJe4sIRu~fdE).
My current research focuses include acoustic cues to upper-body strength, and the communicative content of tennis grunts.
Outside of academia, I write for The Unapologists. I am passionate about the mind and voice, and the interplay between politics, media, legislation, and the structure of society. https://theunapologists.wordpress.com/author/jordanraine/
