About Kelly
Kelly Dakin is a graduate student at Harvard working toward her PhD in Neuroscience. She attended Bowdoin College in lovely Brunswick, Maine and planned to become a physician until she took her first neuroscience course and fell head-over-heels for research. At Bowdoin, she studied the neuronal circuits which regulate sexual behavior in goldfish and newts and was fortunate enough to encounter phenomenal faculty mentors who encouraged her research ambitions. After a 2 year stint conducting research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where she studied how myelin forms in the developing brain, Kelly enrolled at Harvard. She quickly became interested in how the brain ages and why aging makes people vulnerable to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. After dissecting and analyzing innumerable human brains from generous, forward-thinking donors, Kelly is now in the home-stretch of her PhD. She is looking forward to her next career transition, which she hopes will involve wielding more writing implements than pipets.
