FALLS CHURCH, Virginia, September 29 /PRNewswire/ --
- Company to Deliver National Mobile Service to 25,000 Postal Workers
CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has signed a new information technology (IT) services contract with the UK's Royal Mail to deliver a national mobile service to 25,000 delivery vehicles in its letters and parcels operation. The CSC-led team includes Blackbay, a provider of mobile workforce solutions.
The service will enable Royal Mail to provide increased quality of service to customers by allowing them to view the status of their tracked deliveries in near real time via the Web. It will also enable replacement of current paper-based systems for the majority of tracked items, including Special Delivery(TM), by capturing signatures on mobile handheld devices provided by Intermec. The solution integrates numerous legacy systems and provides confirmation of delivery.
"Working with CSC to deliver this innovative, key service will help Royal Mail to continue to meet the growing needs of our customers, increasing our efficiency and service in this area of our expanding business in an increasingly competitive marketplace," said Robin Dargue, chief information officer at Royal Mail Group.
"With the dramatic increase in shopping online and home delivery, it was important for CSC to provide Royal Mail with a robust and scalable solution that could take them to the next generation of service delivery and ensure that they are at the forefront as this trend continues," said Guy Hains, president of CSC's European operations.
The service also provides Royal Mail delivery staff with the ability to map routes and exchange messages with their base locations.
CSC has worked with Royal Mail Group since 2003 and is responsible for the maintenance of its 42,000 desktop computers and management and development of its servers, mainframes and IT processes. CSC also develops and maintains applications and provides a range of professional services supporting business critical systems.
