DUBLIN, Ireland and WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire/ --
- Leading-edge mobile directory now open for consideration for businesses looking to expand their mobile customer reach
dotMobi -- the company behind the .mobi internet domain name for mobile phones and the dev.mobi developer forum -- today announced that it is accepting proposals for find.mobi, a consumer-facing mobile search tool.
find.mobi was created by dotMobi's research and development team to demonstrate an operational mobile search engine that made the most of the mobile web and needs of on-the-go users.
Unlike other search engines, all sites captured and ranked by find.mobi are designed exclusively to work on mobile phones, ensuring that users do not receive search results that will not display on mobile phones. The find.mobi index includes "mobile friendly" sites from all major top level domains, including .mobi.
"find.mobi was an exciting project for us. Although we have not -- until now -- formally announced its availability, find.mobi is already receiving significant traffic. And it has been implemented as a private-labeled mobile search engine for one European operator with additional customers 'in the pipeline,' so we feel confident we've created a useful, valuable tool," said James Pearce, dotMobi Vice President of Technology.
Paul Nerger, dotMobi Vice President of Advanced Services and Applications, said, "find.mobi was originally created by dotMobi to illustrate and communicate to mobile search vendors how we thought that search should be done to make the mobile Web more compelling. When we looked at early mobile search sites, we were disappointed. We simply did not think that it made sense to return non-mobile content as part of a mobile query. find.mobi was built to serve as an example to the search industry to change the way that it should think about search when applied to mobile. But find.mobi has outgrown the lab, and now it's time for find.mobi to get a better home where it can continue to grow."
dotMobi is soliciting proposals for the disposal of all or parts of the find.mobi assets, which include the mobile web site (find.mobi), web crawler algorithm and code, mobile site detection algorithm and code, parking / landing page detection algorithm and code, adult content classifier learning algorithm and code, and the find.mobi name / site address.
find.mobi can be viewed and used from any mobile phone or up-to-date PC web browser by going to http://find.mobi.
Parties interested in making a proposal for find.mobi should contact Paul Nerger, Vice President of Advanced Services and Applications, at pnerger@dotmobi.mobi. Once an intention to submit a proposal is received, dotMobi will provide a notice of receipt and a bi-directional NDA that must be completed before next steps. The RFP process is open only to legally registered companies at the time of the signing of the NDA.
