FLORHAM PARK, New Jersey, February 24 /PRNewswire/ --

Global Crossing (Nasdaq: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced its intent to provide content delivery network (CDN) services by forming relationships with several vendors to give its enterprise customers the flexibility to use the appropriate technology required to meet their specific content needs.

This marks Global Crossing's entry into the CDN market and will enable the company to offer customers industry-leading solutions for the delivery of rich media content and enterprise applications. A CDN enables users to watch a high-definition movie, make an online purchase, listen to music, play a video game, or download a software package.

We're combining the advantages of our industry-leading Global IP backbone with market-leading CDN services to simplify content delivery through an end-to-end solution, said Dave Carey, Global Crossing's chief marketing officer. This strategy will enhance the significant cost and performance benefits of our IP data offerings and build upon our commitment to provide a full suite of services that allow multi-national corporations to focus on their core businesses.

Jointly providing CDN services with multiple vendors gives customers one point of contact for their network and content delivery needs, and enables Global Crossing and its partners to drive best-in-class solutions into the marketplace. Together with its CDN partners, Global Crossing will offer customers the ability to create a high-quality experience for their end users without service interruption.

This approach promises to improve customer satisfaction and allows Global Crossing to help its customers select the right CDN solution for the appropriate business requirement. Businesses often employ multiple CDNs to take advantage of best-in-class services for specific requirements.

Global Crossing's multi-CDN partner approach is a strong entry into the CDN market, as it will allow for a diverse array of potential customers to select what content delivery option is most appropriate for them, dependent on price, availability of services, and type of content delivered, stated David Vorhaus, Senior Analyst at The Yankee Group. Given the breadth of Global Crossing's global network and robust suite of IP and transport solutions, offering a CDN solution is complementary to its core services.
